WORLD POVERTY PREDICTIONS

Introduction:

Even though there can be relative forecasts on the number of elderly people in the eastern and the southern regions of Asia about 10, 25 and 50 years starting from now onwards, very few information on their chances of being poor can be found. However, many reasons can be cited with regards the poverty increase in the elder people. The sheer number of the generation of the baby boom largely has its affect on the salary earning capacity and the saving chances. It is estimated that the working capabilities and the skills so developed would slowly become superannuated. This is for the fact that most of the economies in Asia are undergoing a fast alteration. Difference in the structure of the family would also help in affecting the ratio of the elderly in impoverishment.

Poverty Investigations:

Two questions were investigated in the poverty project. The first was regarding the measurement of poverty amongst the old people. Particularly, the project also raised questions with regards the poverty of those elderly people who stay with their family members. The second question hints at the implication of the quick aging of the world population and the difference amongst the older people. Data was analyzed from countries such as South Africa, Pakistan, Ghana, Taiwan, Ukraine and Thailand. Results have indicated that the consumption of the household per capita spending in the form of benefit criteria would most probably exaggerate the poverty amongst kids and understate amongst the older people. In order to consider the second question, a study based on the data of the time-series from 14 countries of Asia was done in order to investigate as to whether the rates of national savings were largely determined by the elderly share or the share of the kids in the population. In such cases, it would happen that nations having declining birth rates would see a rise with regards economic growth. On the contrary, countries with increasing proportion of the elderly people would witness a slowdown.
